LANTA is proud to mark the 25th anniversary of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) this Sunday July 26th. The ADA has revolutionized and increased access to critical resources and services for those who need them most. In accordance with the ADA, LANTA provides ADA paratransit service to persons with disabilities on its LANtaVan service, providing over 150,000 ADA related trips annually. LANTA also provides persons with disabilities with the opportunity to purchase bus passes at discounted rates which were utilized for over 460,000 bus rides last year. To ensure access, all LANTA buses and vans are equipped with wheel-chair lifts or ramps, as well as notification systems for destinations on all buses.
Public transportation services such as those provided by LANTA offer mobility options for Americans with disabilities who need and deserve affordable, accessible transportation. Reliable and accessible transportation is crucial for all persons, and demand is constantly growing. For example, passenger trips on demand-response services in the United States increased from 68 million in 1990 to 225 million in 2014.
Providing mobility choices helps all Americans, including those with disabilities, to find modes of transportation that fit their needs and improves the overall quality of life of our communities.
